Digital Abstract Expressionism
Techspressionism : Digital Abstract Expressionism
Over the last few years, in pursuing my interest in print media and techniques, I’ve found my work moving ever further into the realms on abstract expressionism. Needless to say, this avenue of Contemporary art actually truly stimulates me, and with my experimental approach to all media, I found the exercise of learning how to make screenprints, and the techniques involved in creating halftones something to follow within its own right. The work presented in this part of the gallery will be from this area, where handdrawn imagery has be augmented and enhance through digitisation, multi-layering, and supraceding images to arrive at a finished, cohesive presentation.
______________
Techspressionism is an emerging movement in the art world that highlights the use of digital technology as a medium for conveying personal, emotional expression. Unlike traditional forms of digital art that may focus on technical prowess, entertainment, or commercial application, Techspressionism centres on the artist’s subjective perspective, connecting it to earlier movements like Expressionism. This approach challenges the notion that technology-driven art is impersonal or mechanical, emphasizing instead the deep emotional narratives that artists can communicate through digital tools.
Digital artists working within the Techspressionist framework are pushing the boundaries of what technology can achieve in fine art.
Using software, algorithms, and other digital platforms, these artists explore new ways to distort and reinterpret reality, much like their Expressionist predecessors. What sets them apart is their intentional use of digital mediums not just as a tool for creating visually stunning works, but as a language to communicate inner emotions, psychological depth, and personal experiences. This distinction is vital in separating Techspressionism from other genres of digital or new media art, where commercial or entertainment values may overshadow individual artistic intent.
The intersection of art and technology offers a fertile ground for innovation, and Techspressionism exemplifies how this convergence can lead to new artistic movements. As digital tools become more accessible, artists are experimenting with a wider array of techniques, from augmented reality to artificial intelligence, allowing them to reimagine traditional forms of expression. By embracing these technologies, Techspressionist artists are not only contributing to the evolution of digital art but also redefining the role of technology in the emotional and subjective landscape of contemporary art. This fusion of art and technology creates a dynamic space where creativity and innovation continuously inform each other.
On the Cave Wall
A collection of works begun in 2022, and added to over the last couple of years. The ideas grew out of a period of watching light and shadow from flames on the walls of cave… further inspirations came from Cave painting from the Magdelenian period and other prehistoric times…
Forces of Light
A collection of works begun in 2024; inspired and added to through my time in hospital and further recuperations afterwards … All images based on watchin light on the wall moving in patterns over the days in bed
Other Experiences
Over the years, I’ve worked as a Chef, an Archeologist, a Builder and a Yurt Maker.
Making Yurts has probably been one of my best things to do, as it has encompassed design, and woodworking and a host of other skills. https://dessinemoiuneyourte.com
“May the soft rains fall, and nurture;
May the warm earth hold the dream;
May the sun shine down with radiance;
May the stars light your way in the dark.
May the seed grow strong for tomorrow;
May the flower give joy to your soul;
May the patterns unfold, unhindered;
May you always be coming home.”
