Celtic Designs

The origins and beginnings of this folio grew from my fascination with the Celtic Tradition and Sacred Geometry.  I spent many a happy hour in the Archaeology Dept. drawing room as an Undergraduate, exploring the treasure-trove of ancient artifacts, and making detailed images.  This often extended to museum visits, and later, while working as an Archaeologist, to finds drawing and context mapping on excavation sites, both with AOC and Headland Archaeology Units for Historic Scotland.

Inspired by elements ranging between the Books of Kells and Lindisfarne to Jim Fitzpatrick’s Book of Conquests; drawing from the gothic architecture of europe and the art deco; guided by the ideas of projective ornamentation proposed by the Golden Dawn, these paintings are all hand-drawn and coloured.  They are all in private collections.

I find that the deeper I go into this exploration through my artwork, the more i understand that there is some further dimension to discover.

And standing here, at the edge of the world; awestruck at the sheer hugeness and incomprehensible nature of that which we do not know, I feel really blessed to have started to unravel my calling in this Mortal Coil.

In essence, my work is about capturing a glimpse of what Lichtenstein called the “unspeakable’, and bringing it back in a form of art.  To me, it holds a liminality which draws me further into it, as if by design…

Psiloglyph Project

This incarnation of the work began in 1998, through to 2005 when my daughter was born and I tidied up the studio in Vernet for more serious ventures.  Several of the designs were used as publicity for the Knockengorrock Festival, and one even became the logo for BFS Beltane in Edinburgh ( which they still use)

Indeed, most of my work has an origin in hand-drawn line work.   I really enjoy the process of designing on paper before i digitise images, as there is a certain organic nuance to the ink lines that is almost impossible to replicate in a computer environment.

Other Experiences

Over the years, I’ve worked as a Chef, an Archeologist, a Builder and a Yurt Maker.

Making Yurts has probably been one of my best things to do, as it has encompassed design, and woodworking and a host of other skills. https://dessinemoiuneyourte.com

“May the soft rains fall, and nurture;
May the warm earth hold the dream;
May the sun shine down with radiance;
May the stars light your way in the dark.
May the seed grow strong for tomorrow;
May the flower give joy to your soul;
May the patterns unfold, unhindered;
May you always be coming home.”
